“I didn’t take the time”. Beautiful and simple. One holds ownership and accountability for what is undeniably in their control. There’s a line in the TV show Severance that comes to mind here… something like “your employer may own the clock on the wall, but the hour is yours.”

I have had some moments of intense bliss as I have pursued my better self. I think a very good question to ask oneself as we pursue different tasks through the day is “how is *this* making me happy?”. And that is being accountable to yourself.

Thanks for your comment Nate! I agree and also love the quote from Severance. Chasing happiness can also be a modern curse itself, as this too is being sold to us to the point of thinking that nothing should hurt or feel hard anymore, which flies in the face of what it takes to really succeed. Might add that to the next part hehe, thanks for the inspiration !

I’ll disagree. Happiness doesn’t always come in smiles on our own faces. While we may walk in dark places at times it should always be in pursuit of our inner light. We should always chase happiness, but in the process you have to learn what that means for you individually and not just accept what someone else tells you it’s supposed to be.

Of course, I was probably not clear. Chasing happiness is key - and it is not a goal but a choice in a way. What I meant is that I feel for a lot people happiness is now confused with "easy and comfortable", like a never-ending holidays on a tropical beach sipping cocktails all day long.

Yep, my feelings exactly. For some it’s a life of leisure, but for many (especially parents) it’s measures of servitude and gratitude in sharing your life with another.
